Surface Notes I is an original abstract artwork constructed from hand cut recycled paper strips and hand stitching on paper. This piece explores the quiet rhythm of water through layered horizontal bands and measured vertical thread.
Soft tonal shifts of muted blue create the sensation of reflected light moving across a still surface. The stitched interventions - subtle, deliberate, and tactile - interrupt the flow like glints of sunlight or small disturbances in calm water. Thread becomes both structure and drawing, holding the composition together while gently breaking its rhythm.
Created using reclaimed materials, this work balances delicacy with architectural precision. The generous negative space surrounding the worked area allows the surface to breathe, enhancing its contemplative quality and making it ideal for refined interiors — from Japandi and Wabi Sabi spaces to contemporary homes.
This artwork is part of the Surface Notes series, a body of work investigating reflection, repetition and the subtle language of thread as line.
