Surface Notes II is an original abstract artwork constructed from hand cut recycled paper and hand stitching on paper. This piece continues the Surface Notes series’ exploration of reflection, rhythm and interruption through thread.
Layered horizontal bands move from pale sage and sea glass green into deeper teal and blue grey tones, creating a gradual descent into depth. The stitched passages - repeated and tactile - sit across the surface like measured disturbances in water. Some clusters feel dense and rhythmic; others sparse and fleeting. The thread functions both structurally and conceptually, acting as a drawn line that records time and motion.
Made using reclaimed materials, the work balances softness with structure. The generous white border creates space around the composition, reinforcing its quiet presence within contemporary interiors.
